A Brand New Ford

Finally, the coaching search is over. OSU hires Travis Ford to be it’s next head coach.

I hate covering coaching searches. Everybody has the scoop only most of the time it’s wrong. Speculation runs rampant. Everybody from Phil Jackson to MJ himself was offered the job and turned it down. I don’t like the process, I do like that it is over.

My first thought when Ford was hired: unimpressed.

That being said, my first thought when OU hired Jeff Capel: unimpressed and that has turned out very well for the Sooners.

Ford’s record is not great, he’s only won 56% of his games as a head coach. He’s been to one NCAA tournament.  Some would say he underachieved with talented teams at UMass.

I predict Ford will impress in the introductory press conference but the real test comes next fall. The Cowboys should be in the NCAA tournament next year regardless of who coaches. If Ford doesn’t take the Pokes to the dance my first thought will remain: unimpressed.
