A Lawsuit? C’mon
Howard Schultz wants his team back and he is willing to go to court to get it. Pathetic!
Schultz says Clay Bennett did not make a strong enough effort to keep the team in Seattle, so he wants the sale (two years ago) voided. What a load of junk!
Remember when Schultz owned the team, he tried to get a new arena deal and could not? Schultz gave up and sold the team. Bennett tried, too, but — let’s face it — nobody with any political power wants to get it done. The owners can’t do it all themselves.
Do I believe Clay Bennett always wanted to move the team to OKC? Yes. Do I believe he made MAXIMUM efforts to stay in Seattle? Maximum is a strong word. Efforts, yes. Maximum efforts, maybe not.
The team is leaving. It’s starting to sink in. Bennett is taking the blame, but if Sonics fans want to blame somebody, blame the politicians. Schultz is making a last ditch effort to save face. Right now, he looks like the guy that gave away the team to a group of savvy businessmen who want to make money.
They will make more money in Oklahoma City, and if ever there was a frivolous lawsuit this is it.
Sonics fans: There is plenty of blame to go around but very little of it falls on Clay Bennett.
Whoever wrote this blog is an idiot! The Sonics will make more money in Oklahoma City then in Seattle? Let’s see here the 14th largest market versus the 45th largest market, connections to Asia versus connections to……the bible belt. Granted Schultz might be trying to save face, but you should talk to legal consultants before you say “C’mon”! With Aubrey McClendon’s comments in Business Journal and emails recently revealed if this goes in front of a jury in Seattle, Clay Clay should be very worried. I just have to say that it amazes me that you call Clay a savvy businessman, if he was so savvy he should be smart enough to know that EMAILS CAN BE USED IN COURT!!!!

Actually Schultz does have a case, but the funny thing is that if he somehow wins then he and his buddies will have to give back the $350 million they took in from the sale, which included almost $70 million of profit.
Yea bring it on! This should be fun. The ramifications of all three lawsuits currently on the docket regarding this move should provide some interesting reading in the months to come and obviously give a lot of food for thought to any ownership group and the league regarding future moves of other teams. As for this particular situation Clay and his buds should be getting a little nervous. In the end the move will most likely happen, Seattle may dupe themselves out of a near term replacement (to attractive a market to last forever), but Clay and his buds will most likely bleed cash like they have never seen before. Go Sonics but not to OKC!
